for 24 years and we will be celebrating this special event on Sunday, August 12.
Pastor Joey Burns had a calling from God to start a new Church of God in the small
community of Oneida, Kentucky, which began August 7, 1988. Many wonderful things
have happened since this humble beginning. The congregation started in an old log cabin
in the center of Oneida. Shortly thereafter, they moved into a storefront building where
they continued to have services until an old pastor, Brother Squire Davidson, invited this
small, but determined church family to move into his church building and combine the two
churches. Pastor Joey accepted his offer and the two churches became one.
They worshiped together in this small church from about 1989 through February 1991,
when a new church building was erected. The first service in the new church consisted
of approximately 200 people. Everyone was so excited! They continued to work for
God the next 13 years until seating and parking became a huge problem. God had
blessed the church so much that Pastor Joey began praying about expanding. The
only problem was there was no more property to expand where they were, so God
gave Pastor Joey a new vision for the church. This would require an unexpected plan
from God, but the congregation was willing to move when God said move.
A God-ordained plan came to Pastor Joey to move the congregation up the road a few
miles to the community of Laurel Creek where an Elementary School was being
closed due to low attendance. God spoke to Pastor Joey and told him that He had
a new plan for him and the church. Through miracle-after-miracle, God opened every
door to purchase this building for the congregation. This was accomplished and the
first service in this new building was held on December 31, 2004.
God has been moving and adding new members to the church as He has ordained
since that time, and the congregation has grown to just under 500 in membership, and
still growing! We will be celebrating this wonderful 24th anniversary on Sunday. There
will be a Pastors Appreciation service during the AM worship with a wonderful home-
cooked meal after the service.
We invite you to be a part of this wonderful event. Come on out and join us in
celebrating what God is doing at the COGWC!!
Through the years.
