Seeing Your Spouse Through God’s Eyes

Thank goodness God doesn’t expect perfection from us. Nor does He hold it against us when we fall short. If not for God’s grace and goodness, we’d all be left holding the bag for our sins. Fortunately, Jesus paid that price on the cross.

Having already forgiven our imperfections and failures, what God desires is for us to start seeing our mates through His eyes—as people created in His image.

People created for a sacred and divine purpose.
People created with specific gifts, talents, and attributes.
People created to meet our most basic earthly needs and desires.
People created, molded, and shaped specifically for us.

When we begin seeing our marriage as a glorious gift from God—the way He wants us to see it—something very interesting begins to occur.

We start treating our mates with more love, respect, and compassion. We find ourselves becoming more patient and kind. We become more forgiving, more caring. We look for the good instead of constantly criticizing the bad. And our mates start doing the same thing.

When this shift begins to happen, we start remembering what it was that first brought us together, and those giddy feelings we felt the first time we met start to resurface. We find ourselves falling in love all over again.

When we start seeing and treating each other the way God desires—when we live out our marriage the way marriage was designed to be lived—God uses us in ways we never imagined possible.
He takes our small, human efforts and turns them into supernatural blessings. He takes our relationship to heights we never dreamed. He begins to unfold His wider plan and vision for us as a couple.

Suddenly, we begin to see why He brought us together, where He wants to take us, and what He wants to accomplish through us.

Nothing transforms a marriage like seeing your spouse through the eyes of his or her Creator.
